This is an exceptional piece of red rutile on Scottish quartz. Crystal chunks like this just don't come along so perfect nor so often. Rutile itself is pretty rare in these parts so it is treasured when it turns up.

This rutilated quartz features pronounced silvery red rutile crystals in a spray formation. It's truly beautiful. There is a little smoke in the quartz but not much, though this comes off the mountain near Aberfeldy where we collect smoky quartz. The green material is mica schist

This piece was found in May 2024, although it might have been the last weekend in April.
