Every so often we receive new stock from our Scottish makers and craftsfolk. One of our favourite suppliers is Central Scotland based chainmaille artist, Thomas Bell.
Tom creates fantastic chain mail - everything from suits of armour to hand woven necklaces and bracelets. Chain mail jewellery is about as goth/punk as it gets and we adore it. Hence why we keep a few in store for Stone Circle clients. Think of it as a treat.
This necklace was woven starting with steel wire, which is twisted, shaped, and cut into rings. Only then can those rings be woven together into chain. This necklace has a pencil Weave, which is a tightly knit chain using multiple rings per section. It is about as thick as your average pencil.
These are necklaces which will last forever.
The stainless steel pencil Weave Chain necklace is 19 inches or 49 cm long. Tom has opted for a barrel clasp which adds extra security suitable for a heavier necklace, even though the necklace is pretty light. This adds to the longevity of the piece.
These are talking point necklaces. Feature pieces. Don't forget to check out the other types of weave as we upload them.
Pencil Weave Chain Mail Necklace (19 inch/49cm) stainless steel, hand made
The artist has agreed to offer commissions for building chain maille pieces. Tom is based in the Central Lowlands of Scotland, where he creates these amazing necklaces out of nothing but metal wire. He creates full chainmail jackets, recreating the chain making skills of Medieval soldiery. He works with steel, aluminium, titanium, and any other metal of your choosing. If you wish to book a commission, send your details and we will pass them on.
