Crinoid Stem Fossil
The crinoid was also called the Sea Lilly, and they had columnal stems which layer together in this piece. This crinoid fossil for sale came from Ayrshire in Scotland, from a disused quarry. We found several crinoid stems in this location, with this piece resembling a thick layer of them. We initially wondered if it might be a burrow fossil, or a coral fossil, instead. It’s open to debate.
These animals would have graced Scottish shores some 300 million years ago. You can learn more about fossils in our blog post.
