Brachiopod Shell Fossil Specimen
This is an excellent example of brachiopod shells showing the outer and inner lines of the shells. This Scottish fossil specimen came from a disused quarry in Ayrshire. It dates back to 300 million years ago. Scotland’s fossil record goes back 1,200 million years1. This piece dates to the Carboniferous Period, based on findings in the River Ayr by other people.
