A while ago we did a swap with a TikTok rockhound based in Washington and they sent us some stones (@soapboxartist) in exchange for some Scottish ones.
So far, we have tumbled what we want to keep and three other specimens which were small enough for the rock tumbler. The bigger pieces are in the queue for the saw.
So this rock came all the way from Washington to get tumbled in Scotland. It has more air miles than we would like but rock swapping is part of rockhounding. Sooner or later we will have pieces from all over the world.
This red jasper is pretty close in structure to chalcedony. You can tell by the lovely shingle it took. Our jasper tends to be closer to quartz and doesn't shine just as well.
This US jasper is a deep red with orange hues. It's a nice piece.
